Central Oregon Where the Sun Lives and is Angry

Well another day in the books. What a day it was too! The first 25 miles were through the forest alongside a state park with ever better views of the Columbia river. I’m going to miss that river. We had an early start to avoid as much of the heat to come as possible This made for a beautiful morning to enjoy being on two wheels with good people. It occurred to me today that after riding and training my usual routes, each day here brings a new experience to enjoy on a bicycle. I am most grateful for this opportunity.
Of course no day is complete without a new challenge. Today will be remembered as the Hot Climb Day. Nine miles and at least Everest type elevation changes in Very Hot conditions. Kudos to everyone for finishing and then slogging the additional 20 miles to the end.
What I will remember about this day is the glorious descent in the morning and the Hot Climb Day (did I mention that yet?). Also good companionship at dinner and hearing about very altruistic activities by my fellow riders. Inspiring. I definitely need to up my retirement game. Oh and also this is my turn to sleep in the “guide motel”. These small towns cannot host all of us in one hotel so I am comfortably residing in a nearby motel. Very clean and comfortable. If you ever wondered what happened to your grandmother’s red velvet plush blanket, I may have a lead for you.
Tomorrow another 90 plus miles but “only” 4000 feet elevation change. Also the second half of the ride is downhill. Another early start to beat the heat.

Glad you survived the climb – and hope the heat gives you a break soon. Very impressive. And love the selfie stick videos. Go Bruce!
