Day 7 Walla Wall to Lewiston

A lot of Meriwether and Lewis Named Landmarks Around Here

Idaho!
A short post after a long day. With the recent run of scorching hot rides, we were all a little apprehensive about todays ride. 100 miles in temperatures at almost 100 degrees might melt a carbon bike not to mention the rider! Luckily we caught several breaks. An unlooked for rain storm in the late morning cooled down the heat sink that is the asphalt road. It also cooled some of our anxiety as the morning was cool and even inviting as each team rolled out to seek fame, glory and the next air conditioned hotel. The next break was our alert and active guideteam. They pretty much purchased the entire county supply of ready made ice for our drinks. Apparently a lot of gas station and grocery store clerks asked “where’s the party” as they watched their ice supply head to the blue and white vans. Also several additional stops were scheduled to replenish and re-ice the team. I personally put away 10 liters of Nuun enriched fluid and still came in dehydrated. Lastly in our favor was the generally downhill twenty mile finish albeit into a cursed headwind. Tomorrow on to Kamiah through the “Heart of the Monster” where the Nez Pierce spiritual tradition holds this to be the birth place of the tribe. Also there is very little cell phone service in the area. Coincidence? I think not.

You go, Bruce. I love the wheat photo. The heat and headwind reports, not so much.
For the record, you’re about to break my all-time CTL high of 97. Hopefully you will not beat my all time form of minus 102 (2017 Bicycle Tour of California). Can you report the daily TSS too? That way we can more fully understand your pain.Wendy and I are headed away, but we’ll be back hopefully to see you in Ohio.Godspeed, Mr. Baird!

Have great trip to Spain. I will want a full report when we ride together in OH. The cycling metrics are so far out of the norm now I’m not sure of the significance. I thought that you and others might appreciate them though.
