Day 8 Lewiston to Kamiah

Thanks for the Clouds and the Rain!

A pretty good rain blanketed our area in the hours before our departure. Also some pretty impressive thunder. It was so impressive that the electricity in the hotel took a break(er). The first two groups rolled out wearing a mixture of rain gear or sun gear I guess depending on ones optimism for the morning. Just after the second group rolled out, the skies opened again and the third group retreated to the friendly confines of the hotel awning and grateful for the delay. Interestingly enough none of the earlier groups reported any rain ever. Weird. Localized storm. The good guide Megan led our small group of three out. We are becoming savvy to the ways of the guides. After three days of rest, our leader and guide said she needed no help leading us. So we obliged her for fifteen miles! This what is known as a “heroic” pull. As the trailing guide she is then consigned to the last rider in the entire group so unfortunately for our band of three, we lost her great readout when we passed on of our compatriots at mile 15.

After leaving town, it was back to the wheat fields but at least under cloud cover and with hopes of forest in the distance. Unlike most days our big climb was early in the day with rollers for most of the day and a hearty kicker up at 12 miles from the downhill finish.
Two of our hearty crew have taken it upon themselves to post the most creative photo of the day. Today we were entertained not only frolicking in the sunflowers but also an apparent attempt to drive away in a combine. I wonder what tomorrow will bring? Thanks for keeping us smiling Mark and Dan.
