Another Day Another Century Ride! Over the 1000 Mile Mark Now.
We had a different start today to shake thinks up a bit. We cycled away from our hotel in full kit BEFORE breakfast. As alluded before the only thing more important to us right now than air conditioned sleeping is calories. With vague promises of “the best breakfast on the trip” we followed our guides who, to their credit, have not let us down. Nevertheless I did have some jersey pockets bulging with Cliff-Bars, just in case. Within a mile we arrived at The Feed Cafe and it did not disappoint. I enjoyed really good granola (finally) hidden by fruits and yogurt. It was certainly enough to start any cycling day. I also sampled the French toast, an omelette and the coffee was pretty good too. Enough to fuel us this morning on our way to Columbus.
As is the trend, the cool Montana mornings and beautiful scenery make for a good start to the day. After the first 24 miles though we returned to the Interstate 90 corridor and were never too far from the sounds of trucks and more trucks. There was a nice hill just before Columbus and a decent descent to follow.
Weather, as is the trend, was very hot (high 90s) by the end. Columbus MT does not have much to offer in the way of lodging, but the Super 8 did offer soft beds and AC. I could have done without the cigarette smoke infused carpet and drapes though. The Inn was full so not a lot of other room options available for my daughter and I. Yes you read that correctly, Taylor cajoled a friend to drive her from Billings and drop her and at the hotel for our ride tomorrow. Excited to have her join us!
