Day 15 Columbus to Lovell

Taylor Leads us to the windy state. We are now a third of the way to the east coast!

Hello and welcome to day 15 of the GREAT crossing. My daughter, Taylor, joined us last evening and was up and ready to go this morning . I on the other hand required a little coffee to match her sunny disposition. Our staging area was under the awning. If one wasn’t awake by then, the gentleman starting his Harley under the awning certainly got ones attention. Early start for him as well. Nope. Just left it idling with exhaust pointed at the crew. Also cranked his tunes. Whatever his intentions were they “backfired” as we carried on with our launch activities with not a little dancing. I think there might be a sociology paper here somewhere. Did his father yell at him during his first bike ride without training wheels? Never received any attention from his mother? Anyway the Lycra clad warriors declined the call out. Probably a good thing as the heaviest of us doesn’t exceed 190 lbs.

The ride itself was relatively mild to lunch in Bridger. Some nice scenery to start with us passing through several small towns uneventfully. Lunch at the park was just on the outskirts. Afterwords several of us retraced our route back to the Fur Store. I mean how often does one have the opportunity to see so much fur of various animals in one place! We talked with owners who remarked that usually the Trek tour visits on Labor Day. Such is the life of a small town leather tanner. I joked about bartering my daughter for several skins. I got a look that perhaps the proposal should be considered. Whoops. Time to move on….

Just after lunch we hit a mild climb and a not so mild headwind. Our little group of four grew to six a we picked up a couple of lone riders who hot stuck solo riding in the gusty conditions. The 18 miles to the next rest stop seemed to stretch on forever. Later I found out that this section always greets the riders this way. Welcome to Wyoming! A bit later on the wind and our course shifted making the pedaling much more tolerable. State signs are a highlight and we took many good photos at this one. Taylor was unfortunately the Flat Tire Princess today and received two punctures in the last 20 miles. We coasted into the hotel towards the end of the group but in time for showers, yoga and a really nice picnic dinner. Taylor’s friend joined us for dinner and then unfortunately they both left for Billings shortly after. Weird. My daughter is going back to work tomorrow and today was my last official day with my group of 31 years. Ride on!

Great to see Taylor with you! Congratulations on your official retirement! And no fights with Harley riders.
