Day 17 Sheridan to Gillette

Wyoming, where cycling for an hour without seeing anyone is not necessarily a sign of the apocalypse

Well, all arrived safely here at the Hampden Inn (by Hilton no less) here in the coal capital of Wyoming. Eastern Wyoming is for tough cyclists or how cyclists get tough. Either way today was tougher than expected. The miles were respectable of course but the moderate elevation change may have lulled us into expecting a reasonable day. The winds of Wyoming crashed the party though

and I find myself still a little hungover. Tomorrow we exit the state for the environs of western South Dakota. We will be nesting in Spearfish which is not far from where my father grew up so a familiar area. A side trip to Devils Tower could be in the works as well. Stay tuned.

Don’t forget to honk if you go through Highmore SD! Margie’s cousin is the former Mayor of Gillette. Of course you probably could have guessed that. Looks like the ride is going well. That’s great Taylor got to ride with you this week. What a treat!

Thanks for the comments Bill. Mitchell about as close as we get to our hunting grounds. I will drop Margie’s name their though and I’m sure a third cousin will turn up.
