Day 39 Bradford to Corning NY

Entering the Empire State

In a nutshell, today’s ride through PA into NY was very similar to yesterday without the sustained climb. This isn’t a bad thing as yesterday was a very nice ride all around with good weather, rolling green hills and a touch of early fall. It did feel good to get the second century of the triumverate out of the way though.

I wound up riding solo the last 25 miles or so. It just worked out that way but sometimes its nice to be alone with ones thoughts and just enjoy the scenery and the quiet solitude. Just after turning on to Main Street in Corning I was shaken from my reverie to the sound of familiar voices. About half our group had fallen in with me and I appreciated their noisy fellowship as we finished the last several blocks together.

Corning has a neat little downtown with some good looking restaurants, a great ice cream parlor and 5 beauty salons. After getting cleaned up, I walked the town and checked to see if any of the salons would take a walk in. Mission accomplished! Some really good Pad Thai with Sandy and Pat, and even snuck in a laundry stop. Tomorrow the last century before our rest day in Cazenovia. But rain is in the forecast…
